Sakurako Marchand has been the manager of the Knowledge Sharing Unit at the Mérieux Foundation since December 2024. In this role, she ensures the sustainability and quality of existing educational programs such as the Advanced Course of Vaccinology (ADVAC), co-organized with the University of Geneva since 2000, the Advanced Course on Diagnostics (ACDx), co-organized with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine since 2010, and the AMR Course, co-organized with University Paris Cité since 2019. Her predecessor developed two new courses for French-speaking countries: the African Advanced Course on Diagnostics (Afro-ACDx), co-organized with the Institut Pasteur of Dakar in 2021, and a course focusing on Epidemiology in Complex Emergencies for Effective Surveillance and Response (Epi-Course), co-organized with Epiconcept in 2023. In addition to these existing programs, her mission within the Medical and Expertise department also includes developing new educational programs on public health topics, with a special focus on low- and middle-income countries, in collaboration with global public health experts and supported by dedicated scientific committees. She leads the scientific committees of ACDx, Afro-ACDx, Epi-Course, and AMR, and collaborates with global health stakeholders such as WHO, UNICEF, CHAI, DTRA, Institut Pasteur, LSHTM, FIND, NIH, Gates Foundation, Africa CDC, US CDC, WAHO, FAO, OOAS, and the Global Fund. Sakurako's objective is to ensure the best scientific content, optimal organization, and financial sustainability of these advanced courses. Prior to joining the Mérieux Foundation in December 2024, Sakurako worked for 21 years at bioMérieux, a world leader in the field of in vitro diagnostics. Her last position was as a global medical advisor within the Global Medical Affairs department, where she was responsible for internal medical training, focusing on strategic company topics such as Sepsis, Blood Culture, Antimicrobial Resistance, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Tuberculosis, and Dengue. Before starting her career at bioMérieux, she worked at Showa University Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, as a medical technologist, and then with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the Lakota General Hospital project in Côte d'Ivoire. |
